Features of ChowDown: Social Experience

Going out to eat today looks a lot different than it did ten years ago, for one reason: a lot of people are on their phones.

It’s a shame, isn’t it? We’re all wrapped up in our phones, not talking to each other, absorbed by our technology.

That’s not…entirely how I view it, however. A lot of the time, we’re using social media apps. Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, etc. We’re using them with each other, sharing memes online and taking pictures, capturing memories. We’re using our phones as another way to interact with each other!

It’s not always the case, but it’s certainly the case sometimes, and it’s just a part of how society has evolved. We use technology to connect in a new way. We use Instagram and Snapchat to share pictures, memories and events. We use Facebook to connect through all interactive aspects of life. We use Twitter to keep up to date with the latest events.

But…what about dining? What about going out to eat? Sure, there are apps and sites out there that involve restaurants. They’re mostly review sites, however. There’s no real central hub when it comes to going out to eat.

That’s one of the biggest things that we’re trying to change with ChowDown. People are on their phones all of the time nowadays; why not make it more of a part of the social experience of dining out than ever before? ChowDown is more than just a convenient assistant to help you pick out your next meal and pay your bill. It’s to be the social hub of all things dining.

You begin using ChowDown by creating your own personal dining profile. This is where you express all of your favorite restaurants and entrees, as well as list any allergies and intolerances you may have. It’s where ChowDown first learns who you are and how to best accommodate you. From there, you can connect to other people using ChowDown as well; you’ll have a friends list, where you can see where they’ve gone out to eat, what they’ve eaten, etc., as long as they’ve given ChowDown permission to share that information.

It’s more than just reading what they ate, but seeing what they ate, as well. Probably the largest use of a smartphone while going out to eat is people taking pictures of their food. Well, what would a dining platform be without a place to store all of your food photos? You’ll have your very own Chow Gallery, where you can save and share all of your delicious meals whenever you go out to eat.

ChowDown will be rewarding, as well. The more you use ChowDown, the more you will earn back through ChowBucks! You can expect discounts, coupons, and amazing deals just for using our platform! Of course we want to give back to all of you supporting ChowDown by using it every time you go out to eat!

Of course, there will also be an easy way through ChowDown to let restaurants know how much you appreciated their food and service. Leave a nice note through the platform and express why your night out was so great!

We’re developing ChowDown because we want dining out to be easier and more fun than ever before. By doing so, we’re tackling one of the biggest problems with dining out (incessant smartphone use) and turning it into a positive. ChowDown is there to help you every step of the way, and to make your dining experience one to remember and easily share with anyone you want to. We can’t wait to use it ourselves and to share it with the world, and one day, we’ve love to see ChowDown used every day by everyone Less stressing, more eating. ChowDown is your personal dine-in assistant.
