With Halloween right around the corner, it’s prime time to begin thinking of what you want to be for Halloween. A holiday based around an ancient Celtic festival, it’s now grown to be a cultural phenomenon that isn’t bound to simply dressing as horrific monsters and spectral demons. People don a variety of costumes: movie and TV show characters, celebrities and athletes, inanimate objects and yes, even food.
See it for yourself. Head to the nearest Target and check out the Halloween section, where you'll find full-sized taco costumes, hamburgers, or even a slice of pizza. Being food for Halloween is certainly in, and a lot of fun.
It’s one thing to simply throw on a ridiculous food-based outfit; it's another to get creative with it. You could throw on a taco costume, yes, but it's a lot more fun to dress up as a carrot while your girlfriend dresses up as a bunny.
I know, right!? How clever. That’s what I did last year. It was unique, and hilarious. Anyways, here are some other stellar food-related ideas that go beyond the simple buy-and-wear strategy.
A Pig in a Blanket – I mean this quite literally, dress up as a pig and wrap yourself in a blanket. For added fun, have it be a blanket with bacon on it. For even more added fun, eat actual pigs in a blanket while dressed as a pig in a blanket. Now, you may be thinking to yourself – Tommy, that’s cannibalism. Well, my answer to that is, this is Halloween, and cannibalism is right up the horror-themed alley.
Nacho Cheese – One person’s the nachos, one person’s the cheese. For added fun, maybe someone can be the chili!
The Guacamole Masher – This one adds a little bit of horror to your dinner plate. It’s a three-parter, too. One person dresses up as an entire avocado. A second person is guacamole, and the third person is a sadistic guacamole masher! Give them a hammer, cover them in avocado guts, and have them chase around the whole avocado throughout the Halloween party.
The Cheese Grater – Imagine you were an innocent wheel of cheese, and this big mean grater was coming at you looking to shred you into little bits. If that’s not terrifying, I don’t know what is. Another solid two-person costume idea.
I mean, I could probably go on and on and on, but I’ll stop there. Mainly because I want to hear what you have to say. What are your ideas for a food-themed Halloween? Write them in the comments below!
